1938 Shelby Flyer Airflo Deluxe – Model 52
I found this bike in a basement in Reno, Nevada. Collectors refer to this model as a Shelby “banana tank”. This was the next most expensive model after the Shelby long tank models. The banana tank came in three versions, painted enamel, chrome and stainless steel. This bike has the very rare and most collectable stainless steel tank. The extensive use of chrome made this a very expensive bike at $48 in the late 1930’s. The look of this bike influenced the look of the Schwinn Phantom models of the early 1950’s.
